- Rice Wine
- Salt
- White Vinegar
How to make Roasted Pork Belly
Step 1: Pat dry Pork Belly with paper towel
- Must be very dry in order to achieve crispiness
Step 2: Poke holes over the skin with a pricker or a sharp knife
- We have already poked holes in the pork belly skin for you, but if you'd like your Sio Bak to be extra crispy, you can poke a few more yourself!
Step 3: Mix Dry Condiments Mixture and Rice Wine in a bowl and apply evenly onto the underside of the belly
Step 4: Wrap the pork belly in aluminium foil, ensuring that only the skin is exposed
-
This step is mainly for the air fryer. However, if you want to keep your oven clean, you can also use aluminum foil when cooking in the oven.
Step 5: Rub Salt evenly onto skin and put aside; the longer, the dryer, the crispier!
-
Salt dehydrates the skin which makes it extra crispy!
Step 6: When ready to cook, pre heat air fryer to 180ºC or oven at 200ºC for 5 minutes
Step 7: Put Pork Belly (with aluminium foil), into the air fryer for 25 minutes at 180ºC OR into the oven for 2 hours at 200ºC.
Step 8: Remove the Pork Belly from the air fryer/oven and remove aluminium foil. Brush skin with White Vinegar and place it back into the air fryer/oven to blast it at 200ºC for 8-15 minutes
Step 9: Remove and rest the Pork Belly for 30 minutes before cutting thick chunks to savour!
-
This is to lock the juices inside
And there you have it, a golden crispy skin pork belly “Sio Bak” that’s guaranteed to impress your guest for CNY. If you try this recipe, let us know how it turned out!
